Missions

We're excited about our latest endeavor - Project CASA in Honduras!

We have always been a very mission-minded church and strive to offer help and hope to all who need it whether they live in our community or in another part of the world.

Some of our current projects include:

Sterling Food Bank

A basket is located in the hallway across from the main office for donations for our local food bank. The food bank especially requests donations of sugar, bread, crackers, and cereal.

Presbyterian Manna

Gift certificates for Dillons' Grocery Stores are sold following Morning Worship and are available in the church office throughout the week. Dillons' gives the church 5% of the amount sold. The monies collected from this project have served a variety of missions projects. Proceeds from Manna sales for this quarter will be given to the Domestic Violence Center in Hutchinson.

Equal Exchange Coffee Project

Each Sunday after Morning Worship, the Presbies sell Equal Exchange gourmet coffees, teas, cocoas, and chocolates during Fellowship Time. Equal Exchange is a "fair trade" organization; it insures that the farmers who grow the products receive a greater percentage of the profits from their goods. Now, not only can we reach out to those in need through our prayers and offerings, but also through our choices of products we purchase. Additionally, the proceeds of the sales are used to help fund the Presbies' own mission projects.

Birthday Jar Offering

We place a large jar outside the sanctuary after Morning Worship to collect money to honor the birthdays and anniversaries of our church family. This year the money will be given to the Thanka Project in Nepal. Bob X conceived of this project in his work with Buddhists in that country. Bob wrote:

"These Thanka [pronounced ‘Tonka’] paintings are such a powerful tool for reaching Buddhists. Because they have so much reverence for this style of painting, they listen intently, wanting to know the stories behind the art. Almost everyone who sees them immediately believes that this is the truth. The most common response that we get is, ‘Why hasn't anyone told us this before? Our people need to hear this truth.’

At the present we have completed about 45 Thankas, covering most of the Old Testament and the Gospels. As is typical in this style, each Thanka depicts several stories. For example, on one Thanka of the life of Joseph, there are 11 scenes showing different things that happened in his life. Currently the artist is working on two Thankas. One is portraying the Crucifixion and the other covers the resurrection and the time leading up to the ascension. We will use the money from the Birthday Jar to pay for one of these."
